Bangladesh Building Collapse Kills at Least 70

An eight-story building in Bangladesh that housed several garment factories collapsed on Wednesday morning, killing at least 70 people, injuring hundreds of others, and leaving an unknown number of people trapped in the rubble, according to Bangladeshi officials and media outlets.

Dreadful Water Pollution in Indonesia

The textile industry in Indonesia has been caught dumping wastewater with a pH of 14 directly into the Citarum River. Most drinking water has a pH between 6.5 and 8.5. Oven cleaners have a pH around 12. 14 will burn your skin. 

Eco Fashion Boutique & Runway at The Green Living Show

Fashion Takes Action (FTA), Canada’s premier non-profit organization that promotes sustainability in the fashion industry, hosts the “Emerging Designers Boutique” at the Green Living Show, April 12-14th. Materials used in the collection include organic cotton, recycled polyester, recycled polyamide and Tencel. The Conscious Exclusive collection will be available in around 140 stores worldwide as well as online from April 4, 2013.

Europeans recycle just 25% of textiles

Europe is failing to manage its resources sustainably, unnecessarily sending valuable materials to incineration and landfill, according to a report published today by Friends of the Earth Europe. Europeans discard 5.8 million tonnes every year, with 75% going to landfill or incineration and only 25% being recycled.
