Materials Used Nicole Bridger uses the following fabric compositions and blends: Organic Supima Cotton/100% certified organic cotton; Hemp Jersey Knit/100% hemp; Linen/100% linen; Modal Jersey/90% modal, 10% spandex; Soy Jersey/56% bamboo, 36% organic cotton, 8% spandex; Organic Cotton Jersey Knit/92% certified organic cotton, 8% spandex; Bamboo/Organic Cotton Jersey Knit with Lycra; Bamboo/Organic Cotton Blend with Spandex/ 66% viscose from bamboo, 28% OG cotton, 6% spandex; Organic Wool Interlock Knit/100% certified organic wool. NBD’s supplier of organic wool comes from certified growers. O-Wool is GOTS certified and they are currently working with their mills for individual certification. Production The factory where Nicole Bridger’s garments are sewn is located in Vancouver, where she visits regularly. The factory supports good working conditions and fair wages. Nicole has a number of fabric suppliers, however, selects the most sustainable option that is as close to Vancouver as possible. Nicole has made a concious effort to tack the orgins of all fabrics used in her collections, including hemp jesery and modal jersey orginating from LA, organic cotton woven in Portugal, and linen grown in Belgium. Any organic claim is supported with proper certification, however, it is unclear whether they carry fair trade certification. Design Garments are named through design affirmations, like “heart”, “truth”, “protection”, “listening”, “courage” etc. Neutral colour palate, allows for multi-seasonal wear. Designs are cutting-edge, feminine and practical. In the context of her maternity collection, the design integrity is not sacrificed, and it has the added bonus of being worn before, during and after pregnancy. Special Features NBD uses tagua nut buttons (like coconut, made in China) opposed to conventional buttons, labels are cotton instead of polyester (made in India), and hangtags, business cards etc. are made from 100% post-consumer paper in Vancouver. Nicole encourages all her customers not to dry clean, but instead to wash their garments as a greener option. FTA Comments : We love that Nicole Bridger Designs has thought about the "extras" when it comes to buttons, labels and hangtag alternatives. This strengthens her commitment to sustainable design as there is a bigger picture mentality going on. While the organic wool carries GOTS certification, we would like to see certification for other fabrics, and also from where they are being sourced.
