Life Cycle of a T-Shirt, Curriculum Connections
Curriculum connections are intended to help teachers understand how the My Clothes My World Unit and Lesson Plans can help meet curricular expectations and more readily incorporate lessons related to climate change, the environment, and sustainability into their teaching practice.
Curriculum connections are derived from official published curriculum documents for Canadian provinces and territories; teachers in other regions can still use these connections as a guide to identify relevant and effective strategies for integrating climate-focused content into their classrooms, even if they are not directly aligned with their local standards.
-
While curriculum frameworks vary across regions, many outline important areas of learning that inform our approach; our unit and lesson plans are designed to align with and connect to the following areas: Social‑Emotional Learning Skills, the Citizenship Education Framework, Global Citizenship and Sustainability, and Environmental Education.
Social Emotional Learning
Our unit and lesson plans support students in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) skills that promote well-being and positive mental health by fostering an understanding of their own climate emotions and encouraging critical and empathetic thinking.
Citizen Education Framework
Our unit and lesson plans are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible, active citizens who contribute to the common good by initiating positive change within their own lives and their communities, and empowering others to do the same.
Global Citizenship and Sustainability
Our unit and lesson plans cultivate students’ understanding of diverse global perspectives and equip them with the knowledge, motivation, and skills necessary to actively engage as responsible global citizens committed to fostering a more sustainable and equitable future.
Environmental Education
Our unit and lesson plans integrate environmental education into the curriculum to engage students in real-world learning experiences that foster a sense of personal responsibility toward the environment, providing opportunities to deepen their understanding of their role in society, and highlighting our interdependence with one another and the natural world.
