About Fashion Takes Action (FTA)

Founded in 2007, Fashion Takes Action is Canada’s leading non-profit organization advancing sustainability and circularity in the fashion industry. We work at the intersection of education, collaboration, and systems change, helping both industry and consumers rethink how clothes are made, used, and valued.

We’re practical, optimistic, and not afraid to ask hard questions. We believe fashion can be a force for good, and Communications is how we bring that belief to life.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Communications Specialist who loves turning big ideas into clear, compelling stories and knows how to get them out into the world.

This is a hands-on, individual contributor role (no direct reports) that blends communications planning and execution across FTA’s programs, platforms, and campaigns. You’ll work closely with internal teams to shape quarterly and campaign-level communications plans, then roll up your sleeves to make them happen, from social posts and e-newsletters to website updates and event content.

If you’re equal parts organized and creative, comfortable juggling multiple channels, and excited about sustainable fashion and climate education, you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Do

Communications Planning, Execution & Brand Implementation

  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate program goals and initiatives into clear, cohesive narratives across channels.

  • Develop and execute quarterly communications plans for both the organization and its many  program areas

  • Coordinate communications with partner organizations, including timelines, shared assets, approvals, and post-campaign summaries

  • Maintain communications templates and core materials to ensure brand consistency, accessibility, and channel-appropriate optimization (search and social).

Content Development & Design

  • Produce communications and marketing materials for education, awareness, and research initiatives (e.g., presentations, marketing collateral, reports, toolkits).

  • Create written and visual content within existing brand guidelines and templates (e.g., simple graphics, story cards, short-form videos).

Social Media & Community Engagement

  • Plan and publish social content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn) for both FTA and My Clothes My World accounts, maintaining a consistent cadence aligned with organizational priorities and campaign plans.

  • Manage community engagement and respond to audience interaction as needed.

Email Marketing

  • Develop, design, and deploy monthly e-newsletters (Inside Scoop, Move the Needle, Industry Insider) and targeted email communications.

Web Content & SEO

  • Maintain and update the FTA website via Squarespace (program updates, event pages, blog content).

  • Support SEO best practices (metadata updates, internal linking).

  • Support blog planning and publishing (internal and externally sourced content).

  • Provide light content maintenance for LoveYourClothes.ca via WordPress.

Performance Tracking & Optimization

  • Monitor performance across digital channels (social, email, web) and contribute actionable insights to improve content effectiveness and engagement over time.

  • Support ongoing list quality and optimization efforts (email).

Event & Program Communications Support

  • Provide communications support for FTA events & programs, including:

    • Promotional messaging and presentation decks

    • Speaker, sponsor, and partner assets and recognition

    • Onsite social coverage

    • Post-event recap content (external and internal)

What You Bring

Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Professional proficiency in French, both verbal and written.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.

  • High level of social media literacy for organizational use across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn), including content planning and performance awareness.

  • Experience with content marketing, basic analytics, and channel optimization.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a fully remote team using tools such as Slack, Google Meet, and Zoom.

  • Proficiency in Canva, Google Workspace, Hootsuite, and Squarespace; experience with HubSpot and WordPress is an asset.

  • Experience supporting graphic design, events and live activations is an asset.

What We Offer

  • A chance to contribute to a national, high-impact climate education and circular fashion initiative.

  • Mentorship, skill development, and collaboration with a small, experienced team.

  • Exposure to a wide network of industry experts and sector leaders.

  • A flexible, fully remote work environment.

  • A supportive, inclusive workplace rooted in creativity and systems thinking.

  • A collaborative, low-ego team culture that values clarity, care, and continuous improvement.

Our Commitment to Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility

FTA welcomes diverse perspectives and is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible and barrier-free, remote work environment. While this role is fully remote, candidates must be based in Canada. Our small team works closely and collaboratively to achieve our goals.

We actively support and encourage diversity, equity and inclusion, and are committed to making our staff and Board positions accessible to all – regardless of ethnicity, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender or identity.  We therefore strongly encourage applications from individuals who self-identify as racialized, Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit), LGBTQ2+ and/or a person with a disability.

This is a full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week) offering opportunities for growth and involvement across a wide range of projects and initiatives. If you’re based in Canada, self-motivated, and passionate about organization and circular fashion, we’d love to hear from you!

Please send resume and cover letter to hr@fashiontakesaction.com, with Communications Specialist as the subject of your email. Only candidates who meet our qualifications will be contacted for an interview.
