Cynthia Lucar Diaz

Cynthia serves as Vice Chair of Fashion Takes Action's Board. She is a sustainability and public policy leader with nearly two decades of experience advising organizations on embedding sustainability into business strategy and navigating public policy impacts. She has led successful and impactful sustainability initiatives, championed diversity and inclusion, and expanded partnership opportunities that resulted in creative solutions and bold action for change in the nonprofit and public sectors. She excels at charting a shared vision, guiding strategy, shaping policy, implementing sustainable programs, and fostering cross-sectoral partnerships.
Currently serving as Manager, Waste Planning at the Regional Municipality of Peel, she oversees environmental transformation initiatives for 1.6+ million residents, leading a cross-functional team to increase waste diversion through innovative circular economy solutions. She sits on numerous industry committees and working groups guiding advocacy efforts and standards development.
In addition to her work, she is an active volunteer, a former Board Director at a non-profit focused on early childhood development and education as well as former Chair of an association working towards food system sustainability.
Recognized for her industry leadership and commitment to diversity and inclusion, she holds a graduate degree in Public Policy and Administration from Toronto Metropolitan University, an undergraduate degree in International Studies from York University, and specialized certificates in sustainability leadership, change management, and community investment.
