Myrtille
Admin, The East End No Buy Textile Project
Myrtille has been working towards building and bridging Facebook communities in Toronto’s East End that focus on textiles. As a thrifter since 8th grade who thinks we should focus on textile accountability, she has decided that a great way to start was experimenting in a small territory. Starting within the Donlands/Jones local No Buy Textile group, Myrtille implemented a free, fun, safe and clean way to renew local wardrobes through “community textile bags”. But, after discovering the overwhelming amount and variety of free local textile resources, she worked towards connecting east end makers and crafters through the East End No Buy Textile project. As of today, with her co-admins, these projects have expanded to promoting and organizing in-person swap events.
Myrtille believes that overconsumption and overproduction of textiles can be revisited if both consumer-driven, bottom up initiatives and political and industrial bottom down activities join forces to help achieve a healthy and sustainable textiles economy.
